Sustainability

As we look forward to 2025, the world around us is changing. Geocaching is a hobby that encourages the appreciation of the people and the world we live in. However, sometimes through our hobbies, we often do not help to protect what we love. For this reason, the Seven UK Mega 2025 has identified some of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals we hope to support when running our event. Help work with us to reduce our impact on the world and the people around us, but also to support our futures ahead.

  • Encouraging attendees of the event to get outside and exercise through the medium of Geocaching which encourages a healthy lifestyle for all ages.
  • Event attendees will be signposted to necessary health service providers.
  • During the event, we will signpost attendees who smoke and vape to designated smoking areas.

  • Free, clean drinking water will be available to all attendees of our event.
  • Free, hygienic toilets and washing facilities will be available to attendees at the event. Camping members will have access to the facilities all week at all times.
  • Waste disposal points will be available for campers who require these facilities.
  • Nearby washing facilities for clothing will be signposted to campers at the event.
  • We hope to work alongside local water providers to encourage the aims of this Global Goal.

  • We are looking to offer attendees the ability to recharge appliances at the venue, and discouraging the use of one-use batteries.
  • We are exploring options to provide as clean energy as possible within the limitations of scope and budget for the whole event.
  • We will be ensuring appliances are not turned on, using electricity when we do not require them to be turned on. Therefore being mindful of our appliance use and resource limitations.
  • We will also be exploring options towards using low power options that provide equal or greater output including the use of energy-efficient lighting.

  • We aim to provide affordable options for all products and services we will provide to attendees whilst not turning an overall profit from the running of this event. Should a profit be made, it will be re-invested into similar Geocaching related events sharing the same sustainability aims.
  • We hope to be able to work with local mobile signal providers to ensure access to mobile reception is good to allow for internet access.
  • Free internet options will be explored and signposted to attendees of the event.
  • We aim to encourage sustainable innovative ideas and the production of products we provide including the use of our own production machinery using sustainable materials.

  • Sustainable transport links: We hope to provide some and encourage the use of public transport options to/from our events.
  • Encouraging access to open and free green public spaces: In these spaces, we hope to maintain them through ‘Cache in Trash Out’ events to reduce litter or improve the environment eg. by planting trees.
  • Making use of local suppliers and businesses during our events to help the local economy and local communities. Additionally, promoting local businesses and firms for attendees to our events to make use of.

  • Be mindful of the packaging we use when posting times sold from our shop in person and online.
  • Making use of second-hand items and toys to create new bundles we sell at events including small SWAG bags.
  • Recycling materials to create new geocaches we then sell to hiders and encourage others to recycle their own materials into their own containers.
  • Making use of local suppliers and businesses during our events to help the local economy and local communities. Additionally, promoting local businesses and firms for attendees to our events to make use of.
  • We try to avoid selling single-use items and instead provide items that can be used multiple times eg. shopping bags. Therefore, decreasing our single-use plastics too.
  • Using our own laser etching and engraving machine and label printing machine to produce, personalise and create our own merchandise rather than ordering items on mass from less sustainable companies.

  • Recycling materials to create new geocaches we then sell to hiders and encourage others to recycle their own materials into their own containers.
  • Buying and encouraging the purchase of eco-friendly products.
  • Planting trees to match the support from our Severn Subscribers through our monthly subscription programme.
  • Using reusable products, materials and selling reusable items such as shopping bags and drinkware.
  • Encouraging the use of public transport.
  • Reducing our paper waste by not ordering too many promotional materials and instead offering electronic receipts from purchases.
  • We hope to offer the possibility to compost food waste and donate food waste to local firms that can make use of it rather than sending it to landfill sites.

  • Hosting ‘Cache in Trash Out’ events to reduce litter or improve the environment in the local community and green spaces including litter picking events, invasive vegetation removal, tree planting.
  • Protecting local natural habitats therefore helping endangered species and ecosystems locally. We are currently providing wildflower seed packets to our monthly subscribers to encourage support.
  • Buying and using eco-friendly materials for merchandise items and encouraging the recycling of these materials at the end of the product life.
  • Planting trees to match the support from our Severn Subscribers through our monthly subscription programme. Current Progress:
